Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter for the attention of all Members of Parliament. I would like them to enact legislation to protect citizens’ properties and from bodily harm resulting from the use of these mechanised weeding machines or brush cutters.
The legislation must state that citizens retaining the services of these operators whose machines do not have the protective guard will be charged and also be responsible for damages and all medical cost as a result of same. The onus must be on homeowners to be responsible citizens. I use the term homeowners to include persons renting property and utilising the services.
These operators remove the guard because some citizens insist they weed into the soil because they feel it will ensure that they do not need the services of these operators for perhaps another six weeks instead of four. No concern is given to the cost of replacing a vehicle windshield, a home window or perhaps damaging someone’s eye.
These inconsiderate acts are another disease that is quickly overtaking us. That’s why we have government.
This is more important and serious than say for example a vehicle owner installing dark tint on his vehicle.
