Dear Editor,
I am disappointed that Mr. Bisram and Mr. Boodram will not answer the questions posed to them that relates to the transparency of Mr. Bisram’s polling, including polling protocol and his polling organisation.
These are just very basic transparency questions that neither gentleman wants to provide. The issue is then can we trust them with any information they are delivering to the Guyanese public?
Mr. Boodram has personally vouched for Mr. Bisram’s polling, but it is not sufficient for us, the Guyanese public to accept these polls and their “analysis” on blind faith. This is his equivalent to saying trust me, I know best, do not ask questions — a typical PPP and PNC dictatorial dogma. This is not good enough for the Guyanese public seeing that people connected to the PPP and PNC (present or past) have their own distorted agenda to pursue which is different from the Guyanese public. The Guyanese public has a right to ask questions of those who are trying directly or indirectly to influence the politics of Guyana.
Mr. Boodram was a former member of the PPP propaganda machinery. Why he fell out of the PPP’s good graces, I do not know. Whether or not he is still connected with the PPP is unknown. Yet he is asking Guyanese to take his word on blind faith.
We assume that as an editor of a Caribbean newspaper, Mr. Boodram, knows that polls dealing with politically sensitive matters of Guyana should be scrutinized. The potentially explosive situation in a fragile country like Guyana is not the same as in USA, and the effects of polling in these two different places are not similar given the political circumstances.
We would like to thank Mr. Boodram for revealing to us that he personally knows the office, staff, and methodology of Mr. Bisram.
Assuming that that the information he provided is true, then one of the possibility is that the polling data were collected by telephone from New York. This means that the people (the sample for the poll) spoken to are of a subset of the Guyanese people who has land lines (like Praodville). In addition, many Guyanese people do not like to express their political views (especially anti–government views) to total strangers for fear of incrimination. This long-distance methodology also eliminates: (1) the people with cell phones since these numbers are not listed; and (2) the people without telephones, who cannot be reached. In the Guyanese polling situation, this means that many of the regular people (most of the population) are excluded from the polling data. The polls are not a true representative of the population. This shows a host of possible flawed polling strategies and predictions. (Pollsters contaminate most polls to reflect all sorts of ideological biases)
We can even be generous and assume that Mr. Bisram employed Guyanese to collect on- site polling data, and that these pollsters (were employed in Guyana by Mr. Bisram) did not come forward since they want to avoid taxes. The Taxation Department and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) should contact Mr. Bisram to find out what happened to their respective contributions.
The question is therefore who and from whom are the polling data collected. Other questions raised are: who commissioned these polls and who are paying for them? (Mr. Dick Morris polls are paid for by the Democratic Party umbrella organisations) The response of Mr. Boodram and non response of Mr. Bisram raise more question than answers.
The pollster, Dick Morris has a web site, contact information and a polling organisation and can provide information as requested. Can Mr. Bisram provide any information on his organisation?
We were simple asking Mr. Bisram and by his own admission Mr. Boodram to provide information on his (Mr. Bisram’s) poll data, polling protocol and polling organisation, otherwise Mr. Bisram polls are inciting, erroneous and void – but now other serious questions are also raised, for which the Guyanese public awaits answers.
