Brush aside Cougars 3-0 in elimination match up
Rosignol United is the 10th and final team to qualify for the National Football League following a 3-0 win over fellow Berbice side Cougars in their elimination game played on Thursday.
Initially, Berbice was allocated two slots but after the budget was cut, they were left with one slot which necessitated the playoff between the two teams.
Rosignol grabbed the opportunity to represent the Ancient County in this historic competition with hands and feet as they started the game at a pace that caught the Cougars players flatfooted.
By the 13th minute, Cougars found themselves trailing by two goals, Tyson Carmichael banging in both in the 11th and 13th minutes. Both goals rocked the nets from close range, Cougar’s goalkeeper Ryan Kellowan did not have a sniff of a chance in denying the chances.
Delroy Fraser sealed the deal and Rosignol’s place in the National league in the 30th minute. Cougars as if jolted from slumber rallied well to prevent any further damage for the rest the first half and the game.
Meanwhile, the National League which is being funded by FIFA through the Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF project is expected to be launched this evening at the Pegasus Hotel.
FIFA Vice President Austin Jack Warner and FIFA Development Officer for the Caribbean Harold Taylor are expected to be in attendance.
