Fans would once again be treated to fistic excitement when the country’s best amateurs clash this morning at the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) Gym in Albouystown in the second edition of the Inter-Gym boxing tournament.
The programme, recently organized by concerned boxing affiliates in the amateur structure who felt that young amateur boxers were starved of activity. The stalwarts, Dexter Patterson, Sebert Blake and Terrence Poole among others decided to take a proactive stance to provide competition for local amateur boxers.
At the last tournament, fans were surprised at the quality of the boxers’ performances and naturally ached for more. As such, the tournament, dubbed the Inter-Gym Championships’ would be staged at least once per month and would feature the best amateurs matched against each other.
While the last tournament was staged at the Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym, the organizers have decided to rotate the venue so that all of the boxers can, at some point, enjoy the home advantage. Weigh in for the tournament would be conducted this morning at the FYF and boxers are asked to be at the venue by 09:00hrs. The tournament would subsequently get underway at around 11:00hrs.
Meanwhile, the organizers are very grateful to the President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Peter Abdool, for the support rendered to the card. Abdool & Abdool Insurance Brokers has been very instrumental in providing trophies for the boxers participating on the card.
The organizers are also appreciative of the help received from other members of the corporate community and include Weiting & Richter Ltd, White Castle Fish Shop, Talk is Cheap Internet Café, Alexander Street, Kitty,
Ramotar and Sons Constructions and Trophy Stall in Bourda Market.
