The Essequibo Lions Club, on Friday night held its Annual Installation of President and Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2009 – 2010, at the Arabian Atlantic Roof Garden, in Henrietta.
Present at the simple ceremony were Mr. Phillip Smith, newly elected Zone Chairman; Mr. Surujpaul Singh, second Vice District Governor and President of the Essequibo Lions Club Mr. Leonard Dunbar.
The evening’s event commenced with recitation of the National Pledge, followed by the observance of a minute silence for one of the Club’s members – Irfan Habeeb who passed away recently.
President of the Essequibo Chapter, Lion Leonard Dunbar, reported categorically on activities that have been undertaken by his club for the fiscal year 2008-2009.
Dunbar noted that under the education project, a Youth Camp at Lake Capoey was conducted and involved youths from age 10 to 14 and the distribution of School Uniforms to 26 unfortunate children.
The Club also hosted a Kiddies Christmas party, the distribution of food hampers to 36 needy families, while cash donations were also made to the Aids Awareness Programme and the Hope for All at Suddie
The donation of blood and a wheelchair were also a part of the organisation’s activities.
The lion’s President also stressed that the Essequibo Lions Club has additional projects to offset.
He said that the Club will undertake the construction of swings and slides for Nursery Schools along the Coast.
Additionally, the Club will embark on a mega Eye care Project.
This project he said will cater for 1,000 persons and will be held at Charity in November.
Mr. Bernard Young, Ameer Baksh, Mayor Sammy Rampersaud and Shelema Barakat were re-elected as Directors to serve the Essequibo Club.
Ms. Sareva Rampersaud was elected as Secretary, while Toolsieram Benny secured the post of Treasurer.
Mr. Singh charged all Lions to serve the community with all the available resources at their disposal.
