Dear Editor,
The Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) as a government has never had a good track record of soliciting the services of capable ‘spin doctors’. That unfortunate trend continues in the name of Randy Persaud.
In an undeveloped, myopic and embarrassing letter to Kaieteur News, dated 25/08/09 and captioned “AFC in pickle”, Persaud fails miserably in his attempt to link the Alliance For Change (AFC) as a bedfellow of the PNCR.
He states that the AFC is sitting pretty with Corbin at various protest opportunities, photographs and all.
Then the wimp of spin immediately reminded readers of the 28 years of PNC rule by claiming that Guyanese have long memories.
Any average non political Guyanese will tell you it is better to confront the monster of today rather than hold on to the fears of a dinosaur of the past. The monster of today is causing an alliance to be formed for the expressed and single purpose of bringing to an end a dictatorial and oppressive era.
The photo moments and protest opportunities are clear and powerful indicators that even old enemies can suspend their differences in the interest of the greater good of an entire nation.
To be truthful, Mr. Persaud, do you think that old divide and rule tactic still works in the 21 century in a country like Guyana? Have you stayed away for that long? What does the PNCR internal organisational matters have to do with the AFC as an independent political party?
If your spin about 28 years establishes that the PNCR is already without credibility, yet the AFC walked with them in protest a few weeks ago against your government’s blatant record of human rights violations on Guyanese citizens. Do you think an alleged rigged party election will cause Guyanese to turn away from the graver picture, of the destruction of Guyana that hangs on your government’s wall?
Spin should be slick not obvious and insulting to people’s intelligence.
The AFC has a responsibility as a leading opposition party to protest alongside any organisation or groups in representing Guyanese at this crucial juncture of devastation in our nation’s history.
How preposterous it is to ask Ramjattan and Trotman, tell us where they stand on rigged elections!! We want them to tell us when we will be able to breathe freely as a nation without, wanton murders in our towns, without criminal enterprises and drugs lords in bed with elected representatives.
We want them to tell us come 2011 that we will have a government that will commence the process of nation building, with fairness and justice for all.
