The body of 45-year-old Ann Lespeur was last evening fished out a canal on Sheriff Street, a short distance from the Chinese Embassy.
She was originally a resident of Sophia but just before her demise she was staying at the night shelter.
The discovery of the woman in the canal attracted scores of passersby and to some extent disrupted the smooth flow of traffic, up until the body was removed.
The woman who has been described as of unsound mind had left the night shelter the previous night and never returned but was seen in South Sophia yesterday morning.
This newspaper was told that the woman left her husband, who only wished to be identified as ‘Son-Son’, because she was being constantly abused.
The ex-husband said that they had separated some five years ago and that they had three children together and that she had two other children, sons, one of whom had died.
Her eldest daughter with ‘Son-Son’, Simone, lives in Buxton, while the younger siblings, Kareem and Keisha, reside with the father in South Sophia.
