Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter by Vishu Bisram (Kaieteur News, August 19) in which he wrote; “I am happily employed as a teacher in NYC. I will be an idiot to leave a tenured teaching position with only a few years remaining for my retirement and as the highest paid teacher with the city.”
As usual, and since the past four years, Mr. Bisram cannot tell us which school(s) he teaches at. Now we know that he is the highest paid teacher in New York City. To think that you have media people in Guyana that allows this man to make a mockery out of them by quoting his non-existent polls.
Information is pouring in to me on Bisram. Someone directed me to a letter by Ravi Dev which gives the occupation of Mr. Bisram. According to Dev, Bisram made his money in real estate. I was informed that Dev and Bisram were close pals in the 80s in New York where they both worked in the real estate business. Mr. Dev at least should come forward and tell us about Bisram’s schools that he taught at.
I was asked to put a bold question to Bisram – in what year did you graduate from university and name the degree you took and the University you been to. That should not be a problem for Bisram because he was happy to tell us that he went to school in Guyana at Central High School with Khemraj Ramjattan
So Vishu Bisram is the highest paid teacher in New York City. I guess the Chronicle has to do a special feature on Bisram. The population of New York City has just under nine million people with school teachers who have fantastic degrees and have been working over 40 years including someone I know. But up comes Vishu Bisram who migrated to New York in the eighties and bingo! Mr. Bisram is now the highest paid school teacher in NYC.
Where do President Jagdeo and the PPP get these people from? Before I go, can someone from the media community be brave enough and come out and defend NACTA, the teaching status with school identification and polling status of Bisram.
Before I close, if Mr. Bisram wants to know which universities I have been to, where I live, where I work and what I teach at where I work, please let him know I would be happy to release that information as soon as he would like me to.
Why don’t we bring this exchange to an end by Bisram telling us all about his work and I doing the same, but we must include the organisations we belong to and who are in the leadership and where they are located. I will go first. I am the Vice-Chairman of the University of Guyana Workers Union. The head is Bruce Haynes of the Faculty of Technology at UG. The organising Secretary is Godfrey Adams of Buxton; he is in the telephone directory. Shall I go on Mr. Bisram? Now who are your leaders in NACTA? Give me address and telephone numbers. Do not write back if you cannot be specific
Frederick Kissoon
