Romeo Andrews, who is accused of killing a North Sophia man on Sunday last, was yesterday remanded to prison, when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Andrews was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which stated that on August 17, at Sophia, he murdered 38-year-old Andrew Thomas called “Pyee”. The expressionless and scruffily dressed man stood calmly in the prisoner’s dock as the charge was being read to him. He was unrepresented yesterday.
Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that on the day in question, Thomas was sitting in a shop watching television when the accused came in and blocked his view.
She explained that Thomas asked Andrews to remove, but he refused, and an argument ensued between the two.
The prosecutor stated that Andrews was stabbed in the neck by Thomas. She further explained that after Andrews was stabbed he was pursued in the yard by Thomas where he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The prosecution asked for the matter to be “put down” for three weeks while the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions is sought.
That application was granted and the magistrate adjourned the matter for September 29.
