Their next stop was the Joshua House. The Benschop Foundation through its overseas partners continued their social campaign of bringing cheers to the less fortunate and needy.
On Wednesday, the foundation donated a quantity of items including boots, clothing and some school apparel to the children of the Joshua house which according to the home’s Administrator, Clifford Accra, will go a far way in preparing the children for the new school year.
Anxious smiles adorned the faces of the beneficiaries who come from different backgrounds and cultures and they all appeared to be one big happy family.
Head of the foundation, Mark Benschop, congratulated the Administrator of the home and his wife for the job they are doing, pointing out that dealing with so many children is no easy task.
He said that his foundation is in partnership with other individuals and agencies from around the world, and these agencies and individuals are very concerned about the welfare of those in need.
According to Benschop, many who are inclined to help would normally do so through the foundation and the entity is appreciative of the efforts being made by these kindhearted individuals and agencies.
He said that Joshua House was chosen to facilitate two visitors from the United States of America who are very fond of children and anted to make a contribution to them.
One of them is Renison Clark, a Guyanese originally from Garnett Street, Campbellville.
She said that she is a friend of Benschop and was told about the foundation, so she decided to help.
“This is something we always wanted to do. We were looking for a foundation through which we can help the children in Guyana. As girls growing up we thought about it and thought that this was a great opportunity for us to come and do this. I love children, I just love being with children and doing stuff with children,” Clark said.
She said she is from a large family and she is accustomed to being around many children.
“My mother has eleven of us. I’m like watching them, and oh my God, it’s back to my childhood days,” Clark said.
Her colleague, Michelle Cummings, who is originally from Newtown, echoed her sentiments.
She said that they had wanted to do this for the longest while but couldn’t find a proper facilitator.
“I kept sending barrels to people and asking them to distribute but I wasn’t sure if it was being done and I wanted to do it on a larger scale. When I heard about the Benschop Foundation, I thought that this would be good. When I heard about the Joshua House, I was really excited,” Cummings said.
Clifford Accra in expressing his appreciation noted that the Benschop Foundation is no stranger to the Joshua House.
“We would like to thank the Foundation and all those who are associated with it,” Accra told this newspaper.
Apart from the donations, trainee cosmetologists who are attached to the foundation provided facelifts for the children, which included manicures, pedicures and hair trimming.
