The Rotary Club of Felicity/Charlieville of Trinidad and Tobago, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Forsyth County of Georgia, District 6910, USA, has received a matching grant from Rotary International to provide 1,400 wheelchairs at a cost of US$120,000 for distribution to the needy, differently abled and senior citizens throughout our Rotary District 7030 of which Guyana is a part.
The chairs have been sourced from the Wheelchair Foundation of the USA.
Through this partnership Rotary of Guyana has been the beneficiary of the second shipment of 110 of the wheelchairs.
Distribution is being done free of cost through the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Guyana to the most deserving cases.
The official ceremony to mark the delivery of this second consignment of wheelchairs to the recipients was held at the DDL Staff Club, Diamond, when Past President Gayapersad of the Rotary Club of Felicity/Charlieville of Trinidad and Tobago and under whose stewardship as Charter President this project was initiated, performed the symbolic handover of the chairs to Assistant Rotary Governor( Guyana) , Keith Williams.
The occasion was a ceremony which was witnessed by both the local Rotary family and a contingent of Trinidad and Tobago Rotarians who came over specially for the occasion.
The presentation was followed by fellowship and lunch between all Guyana Rotary clubs, the recipients and the Rotarians from Trinidad and Tobago.
