Vigilance opened play in the Buxton leg of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport sponsored Inter-Block football tournament at the Vigilance Playfield with victory on Sunday last over Buxton Youth Developers 1-0.
Jermaine Castello broke away from his markers, eluded several defence players then hammered home to score in the 40th minute and hand his team the eventual victory.
The tournament continues Sunday with a double header starting form 2:30pm with Company Front opposing Friendship Back, while at 4:30pm in the second game Brusche Dam collide with Annandale.
Saturday August 22 will see Buxton Middle Walk, the defending champs, tangle with Friendship, while on the 23rd Red Street take on the Veterans which will bring an end to the first round.
The winners will advance to the next phase which will determine the finals places. The Ministry has committed to ensuring floodlights for the grand finale on a date to be confirmed.
Parliamentary Secretary within the Sports Ministry, Steve Ninvalle, was on hand for the action and presented a pair of goal nets and footballs to the coordinator for the staging of the tournament.
