Police have questioned a woman from Kaneville and are looking for several suspects in connection with the execution-style killing of 27-year-old Brendon Charles.
The woman was questioned on Saturday after police were informed that she had a recent dispute with Charles and allegedly sent the gunmen to kill him.
However, she was subsequently released.
Police are also looking for at least three men, who were reportedly inquiring about Charles’ whereabouts recently.
Two of the suspects are said to be from Agricola and Craig, East Bank Demerara.
Charles, of Lot 914 Fourth Field, Kaneville, was reportedly gunned down at around 01:15 hrs on Saturday in a yard at First Field, Kaneville.
His body, with a single gunshot wound to the chest, was found around 06:00 hrs by the occupant of the property.
Kaieteur News was told that there has been enmity between Charles and some of the suspects, who reportedly had ties with the Agricola and Buxton gangs.
The feud had resulted in the deaths of two other of Charles’ siblings.
Deion Charles, 23, was gunned down in 2002 in his father’s presence. Devon Charles, 21, died in similar fashion in Agricola in 2005, allegedly at the hands of now-dead gunman Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles and his associates.
Kenrick Charles, the slain man’s father, said the dispute between his son and the suspects escalated a few days ago, after Brendon became involved in an argument with a female associate of the men.
He said that a scuffle ensued between the woman’s daughter and his son and the matter was reported to the police.
On Tuesday, some friends reportedly informed Brendon that two of the women’s friends were planning to kill him.
According to Mr. Charles, one of the men spoke to Brendon that same day and reassured his son that he had no intention of harming him.
The victim’s mother, Marva Cuffy, said she last saw her son alive at around 20:00 hrs on Friday, when he left home “to get some breeze”.
She alleged that at around midnight, one of the suspects came by her home and inquired about Brendon’s whereabouts.
After he left, the woman contacted her son and warned him that the suspect was looking for him.
A First Field, Kaneville resident recalled hearing three gunshots, at around 01:00 hrs on Saturday.
The woman and her husband peeped outside but saw nothing.
She said that they went outside at around 06:00 hrs and spotted a cap and a sandal in the yard to the south of her residence.
Shortly after, the occupant of the house came outside and saw Charles’ body lying near the fence.
