Will work with all stakeholders
Director of Sport Neil Kumar is re-iterating that his entity is only interested in the development of Basketball in Guyana and does not have any ulterior motive in this regard.
Kumar made the comments yesterday in direct response to an article that appeared in yesterday’s edition of the Stabroek News under the headline, ‘David Patterson to preside over GABF’.
Expressing his views on the meeting Kumar has summoned with the basketball fraternity in the article written by Donald Duff was David Patterson, Acting President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation.
Patterson spoke on the decision by Director of Sport Neil Kumar to exclude the GABF from a proposed meeting on Monday with Presidents of two sub-associations of the GABF. “It is extremely disappointing to hear the Director of Sport making comments about elections within the GABF.
“That is an extremely unusual move from a state sports administrator. There is always due process and even though he may have concerns those concerns should be conveyed through the proper channels and the Director of sport should not be making preemptive moves within the federation, Patterson was quoted as saying.”
Kumar in response stated that the NSC wrote letters to all Basketball stakeholders including the governing body. Their General Secretary Dr. Maxine Parris-Aaron received the letter according to Kumar.
Kumar was emphatic in saying that the article was erroneous and all they (NSC) was interested in was seeing the sport move forward since his entity has invested a lot in the sport.
The proposed agenda for the meeting which would be held on Monday from 10:00hrs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall was circulated to members of the media present.
Following is the full agenda:
