Sudesh Fitzgerald, Guyana’s representative at the last World Darts Championship, once again showed why he is deservedly the best player on the local scene when he beat a star-studded field that included multiple-times national champion Norman Madhoo to win the Singles category of the Gems Mining-sponsored Tournament last Sunday at Granny’s Hang Out Bar in Better Hope.
Fitzgerald, who has shadowed Madhoo over the past 3-4 years carted off the top prize of $8,000 and a trophy, while Madhoo ended second to carry home $4,000 and the runner-up trophy.
Occupying the third spot was Ricardo Madhoo, while Lalchand Rambharose finished fourth. They each received $1,500 for their efforts.
Fitzgerald then teamed up with Sherwin Green to capture the Luck of the Draw competition, relegating the pair of N. Madhoo and Anthony Bissoondial to second place, while Vishnu Bhupan / R. Madhoo came home third followed by the combination of Bryan James / Christopher Amin.
The winners collected $6,000, runner-up $3,000 and third and fourth placed teams $2,000. In Open Doubles play, the duo of Anil Latchman / L. Rambharose copped the top prize followed by Ronald and C. Amin and S. Fitzgerald and A. Bissoondial in that order.
