Organisers to bring in Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams for event
By Franklin Wilson
August 9, 2009 is expected to be a memorable day in the sporting history of Linden, when the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, in association with the Roraima Bikers Club bring off a Cycling Fiesta at the Amelia’s Ward Circuit.
Corporate support for the event, which will see lucrative cash prizes being dolled out to competitors has already began to flow. Last week, Bill Express was the first to lend a hand and yesterday at their main branch in the city, Camp and Middle Streets, Church’s Chicken officially came on board.
Director of the company, Gregory De Gannes presented a cheque for an undisclosed amount to Director of the K&S Organisation Kashif Muhammad, fellow Director Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, also attended the simple handing over.
De Gannes in making the presentation, reminded that his company, which also has one of its branches in Linden, reminded that they have always been supportive of sporting events that highlights and builds a community and in this instance, Linden comes into focus.
“As always we are happy to be associated with Kashif and Shanghai with this contribution towards the community of Linden. We will also be there selling our product to satisfy the appetites of the supporters on the 9th.
This is playing our little part in contributing towards the development of youth and sports in the various communities.”
Muhammad thanked Church’s Chicken for their contribution, while informing that 11 events are being planned for the 9th, including the Linden versus Georgetown showdown.
To ensure that this race among others is a big hit, the organisers are in the process of finalising arrangements to fly in leading Guyana and Caribbean sensation, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams for the Fiesta.
Williams, a resident of Linden who started his career as a member of RBC in the Bauxite Mining Town, it is understood is presently competing in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
He is well respected throughout the Caribbean and in his homeland and will be a quality addition to the Linden contingent against what is expected to be a star-studded Georgetown line up, featuring the likes of Alonzo Greaves, Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay, Robin Persaud, Geron Williams and Christopher Holder among others.
BMX, ladies and veteran races will also be contested on the day with attractive cash prizes for the 1st to 3rd place finishers.
The feature race of the day will see prizes going to the 1st to 8th place finishers. Trophies, compliments of Bill Express will also be awarded the top performers.
