Hopefully the death of 19-year-old orphan, Rodrigue Mendonza, will cause the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Parika to remove a cross bar from Butcher’s Street given the enormous troubles it has caused.
On Monday last, the young man who works as a porter, went in to the street on a Canter truck and ducked the first time from the Cross bar but upon his return apparently forgot and as he was sitting at the back of the Canter truck his head slammed the cross bar and he dropped dead. He was not facing the cross bar.
Residents in the area say that they have been pleading with the authorities to remove the structure given that since it was erected in February it has injured dozens of people.
One resident recalled that on one occasion a young man was struck by the bar and was left unconscious on the road. The driver of that vehicle was unaware that the person had been struck off of the vehicle.
