East Coast Demerara received a quantity of wickets, bats and balls to assist them in the running off of the Kidicare softball cricket tournament, geared to attract players at the Under-15 level.
The event is in keeping with a pledge made by Mike’s Pharmacy to assist the youths of the various zones.
The response have been heartening with some 10 teams indicating participation in the country-wide tournament where youths will vie for trophies provided by Mike’s Pharmacy under the Kidicare product, which is a comprehensive nutrient for growing kids.
The teams have already started to compete and a high standard of play has been displayed.
Teams from as far as Mahaicony, are set to begin their quest for a place in the quarter-finals.
Representative of East Coast, Nadir Baksh alluded that he is very impressed with the discipline and enthusiasm shown by the Youths and this gesture will help the teams, who find it very difficult to play the game and have to provide these essentials for themselves.
It will also help to raise the standard of play, since the youths will not have to think about where to turn to get equipment.
He also said that softball cricket is on the rise on the East Coast of Demerara and a tournament of this sort will bring out the best from the youngsters since they will be competing at their age group.
