When play in the Banks DIH Coca Cola Senior League continued in the Ancient County last Sunday, Rosignol’s Cornel Taylor found the back of the nets on five occasions to lead his team to a 10-0 thrashing of Strike Force in the opening game at the Number 5 Playfield.
In the main event, former champions, West Coast based Monedderlust secured their second win, 1-0, over Pistons United.
Rosignol rebounded after losing their previous game 7–2 to hammer the hapless Strike Force unit. By the end of the first half the score was 5-0, national Under-15 hopeful Dreshaun Bishop started the goal spree after only the first minute of play.
Cornel Taylor fired in the first of his five three minutes later, doubling up in the 10th. Jolyon Bishop, the older brother of Dreshaun found scoring range in the 29th minute with Shaun ‘Uncle’ Brutus on target in the 37th.
The Rosignol players did not come off the gas in the second half as they maintained total control of proceedings.
Taylor scored his third, fourth and fifth goals in the 46th, 61st and 65th; Roncy Caleb added his name to the score sheet in the 49th and Hugh Barratt four minutes later.
Mohamed Ali, another Under-15 player called to national trials, missed his chance to score when he squandered a penalty kick, while another Under-15, Odingo Carter enjoyed a good game in defence.
Two-time league champions Monedderlust secured their second win of the tournament via a 1-0 margin over New Amsterdam based, Pistons United.
The condition of the field was vastly improved from the previous weekend, as both teams went after each other in both periods of the match.
But it was Monedderlust who capitalised on their chance to score, Gladwin Johnson slipping the ball into goal after some poor defensive work by Pistons, two minutes into the second half.
More games are slated for this weekend with New Amsterdam United leading the points table on 13 points (4 wins & 1 draw).
They are followed by Cougars and Real Union who are locked on 9 points apiece from 3 wins and 1 loss each.
