Travis John, 18, was remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer charges of burglary on the home of Kaieteur News Editor-in-Chief, Adam Harris.
It is alleged that on July 6, John broke and entered the home of Harris and removed one Nikon D90 camera, a Blackberry cellular phone, one laptop computer, a DVD player, a car stereo, a quantity of alcohol and other items, amounting to $658,000.
The accused, who is actually Harris’s neighbour, reportedly entered the home while the Editor-in-Chief was away and stole the items.
Through police efforts, a Nikon D90 camera, Toshiba laptop, and the DVD player have been recovered, leaving the cellular phone and $40,000 worth of assorted liquor missing. It was noted that John voluntarily took the police to the locations to provide the items that were recovered.
The police deserved praise, Harris said, when asked about the recovery of the articles. He singled out Snr Supt Winston Cosbert, Detective Sergeant Houston and Constable Bobb Blackman, Supernumerary Detective David ‘Lammy’ Coates.
John was identified by witnesses as the person who entered Harris’s house while he was away from the premises.
He will return to court for trial on July 30.
