Police have detained a man in connection with torching of a car belonging to the owner of Boysie Taxi Service in Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
The owner of the taxi service told Kaieteur News that he was awakened at around 04:00 hrs by a neighbour who shouted that a car under the businessman’s house was on fire.
On checking, the businessman saw that his vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was engulfed in flames.
Neighbours assisted him in extinguishing the fire, but by then, the vehicle had sustained some $350,000 in damage.
A plastic bottle which smelled of gasoline was found near the burnt car.
According to reports, some residents informed the owner of the car that they had seen two men fleeing the scene shortly after the fire started.
According to a source, police subsequently arrested a resident with whom the taxi service owner had a recent dispute, which had resulted in the resident being taken to court.
