A woman said to be in her 80s was yesterday morning rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after it was believed that she was sexually molested by an intruder.
Following a doctor’s examination it was confirmed that the woman was indeed raped.
This newspaper was told that some time around 10:00 hours yesterday other inmates of the Holy Family Senior Citizen’s Home were alerted by a garbage collector that he was getting no response from the woman’s apartment.
According to an inmate of the home, after the garbage man kept calling and getting no response he informed other persons in the building.
“The man tell we go and check on she fuh see if she dead” an inmate related.
As other inmates rushed to the woman’s room they noticed her sprawled across her bed half naked and bleeding.
An ambulance was immediately summoned to the Vlissengen Road Home and the woman was rushed to the hospital.
It was reported that nothing was missing from the woman’s room and the other inmates have since ruled out robbery as the motive.
They were nevertheless angered by the fact that having reported the incident since mid morning, the police up to 16:30 hours yesterday had failed to visit the scene.
In the meantime up to press time yesterday the elderly woman was still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
