Wakenaam, the second largest island in the Essequibo River, will for the second time showcase its glories in various manners on August 1, 2009.
According to a release, the Wakenaam Night Management Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, will host its second Wakenaam Night.
According to Public Relations Officer of the event, Gary Hinds, the event will feature a display of locally produced products in the form of art and craft, pottery, designers’ clothing and Agricultural products which will be on sale.
Hinds said that the main attraction for the bashing night is the much anticipated ‘Miss Wakenaam Pageant’ that will see nine selected Wakenaam beauties vie for the coveted crown.
It is anticipated that the beauties will be enlightened on issues such as HIV/AIDS, violence against women, basic make-up, personal hygiene, stress management, and exposure to leadership qualities.
The event which is gaining sponsorship from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Wakenaam entrepreneurs, The Busta Company and Ansa McAl Group of Companies, will be held at the Wakenaam Community Ground at Good Success.
Hinds promises that the event will offer explosive entertainment by the Shakti Strings Orchestra Band and from Wakenaam artistes.
All proceeds from the event, he said, will go towards the completion of the pavilion at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground, thus the need for as much corporate assistance to ensure that the event is a true success.
