Doctors give relatives little hope …
By Latoya Giles
Doctors have given the relatives of 47-year-old Lilowtie Persaud little hope of her surviving.
The woman’s sister, Shondel Persaud, said that the doctors have told them the woman’s condition is rapidly deteriorating. “De doctors tell we that she condition just getting worse and she might not make it”.
The distraught sister said that they have prepared themselves for the worse.
She said that although it’s hard to lose a loved one, at the same time no one wants to see someone that they love and admire suffer.
“We know losing she would be hard and is something that we would have to live with, but we don’t want to see she punish like that in a hospital bed,” the sister said.
The sister further told this newspaper that the 16-year-old driver who was allegedly driving the vehicle, has since secured $300,000 bail in the High Court.
The sister said that the suspect is required to report to the police station on a daily basis.
The woman was struck down two Sundays ago by a car driven by an unlicensed 16 year-old.
A metal device is presently attached to the woman’s head to help stabilise her spine. A medical report had shown that Persaud suffered spinal damage and is paralyzed below her neck.
The woman’s brother, Vijai Manohar, had told Kaieteur News that he was sitting outside his yard when the accident happened. He said that his sister was standing behind him watching him play, when a car that was coming from a westernly direction suddenly veered out of control.
The car had missed the domino players and picked up Persaud and deposited her in a nearby drain. Manohar said that the car uprooted an almond tree before coming to a halt after crashing into a concrete fence.
He said that a neighbour and onlookers picked up the injured woman and rushed her to the hospital, while he and some other persons approached the car in which three young men were.
