Quarter-finals continue today
President’s College (PC) became the first team to qualify for the Final Four in the Under-19 competition of the National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) with a 47-33 points win last night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The senior secondary institute outplayed its academic counterparts, St Stanislaus College in the final half to come away with the convincing win. Richard Mohandatt had 14 points for PC while Cowen Gittens scored 20 for Saints.
Tutorial High School also had a victory in the Under-19 competition with a 34-30 points win against School of the Nations. Elton Jefford Jr. and Kenatha Chester scored nine each for Tutorial while Fabian Headley had 14 for Nations.
Linden’s Technical Institute blew away Queens College 90-10 in the same version of the competition with Orin Rose scoring the highest individual score so far with 39 points and Travis Blackman offering support with 20 points.
Guyana’s Technical Institute also had a win with a 76-23 points’ triumph over Brickdam Secondary School. Shelroy Thomas and Darrion Lewis had 24 points each while Clyde Wilson added 12 points. Elton Bray had seven for Brickdam.
Nations won 27-20 vs. East Ruimveldt in the Under-17 competition with Derek Quaicoe scoring 14 points. Nicholas Cascius had seven points for Nations. New Campbellville defeated Saints 17-12 in the Under-15 competition.
