Executive Director of the President’s Youth Award of the Republic of Guyana, Alfred King, has been appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
King is replacing Keith Booker, who has held the position for the past 11 years.
King has been a member of staff at the Ministry for the same length of time.
Speaking with Kaieteur News last evening, King said that he will ensure that the Ministry delivers quality and effective service in keeping with its mandate in a very cost effective way.
Additionally, the new PS said that he will ensure that at all times there is proper management of government resources as well as value for money spent.
King said that youth development will be among his major areas of focus as this is an area he has been involved in for over a decade.
He stressed that he has a passion for development of young people and sports.
Outside of his regular work schedule, King volunteers his time in organizing community sports.
He is currently the president of the Guyana Football Referees’ Council.
In 1998, he was a Guyana Defence Force boxing champion.
Only recently, he participated in the Caricom 10K run.
King will now join the recently appointed Permanent Secretaries: Collin Croal, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Nigel Dharamlall, Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and Emile Mc Garrell, Ministry of Housing and Water.
