The annual Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Inter-Block Football competition, at the East Coast village of Victoria, will conclude today at the Victoria Community Centre Ground.
The triple-header card kicks off from 5:00pm with the first of two grudge matches: Buxton Under-17 take on their counterparts Victoria Kings in the opening contest, while at 6:30pm a female match-up sees Victoria Kings tackle Georgetown.
The main attraction at 8:00pm promises fireworks, in what is being called the ‘battle of the big cats’ when Mid Section Lions collide with Belfield Tigers.
Tigers would be led by the dangerous and evergreen Kojo ‘Cutter’ Huntley, his support cast includes Aubrey Gibson, the tournament’s leading goal scorer, Trevor Fraser, Seon Robinson and Rolson ‘Crespo’ Morrison. The defence will see Kempton Williams, Sherlock Dowden and Dexter Wall in control.
Mid Section Lions have Andrew Holder in charge with support from Kurt Adams, Rueben Morris, Marlis Johnson and Dwayne Marks.
Their defence includes Mortimer Murphy, Ellis Skeete, Shawn Samuels and Samuel Blackette; Andrew Williams will do duties in the goal.
An action packed contest is anticipated in the U-17 scrap. Kings prevailed 1-0 over Buxton when the two teams last met. Buxton have been preparing and are expected to come out firing to win this return fixture.
Kings will depend on the services of national Under-19 player and skipper Calvin De Souza, Akeem Holder, Ken Gulliver, Delroy Thomas and Dexroy Fraser in attack and midfield, while the defence will be marshalled by Alden Lawrence, with help from Rondell “French man” Hashanah and Keon Semple.
Buxton will feature player maker, Kurtis Farley, with support from Orin Talbert, Kevin Skeete, Orin Yaw and Devon Thomas.
The girls contest should also be a highly charged affair. Kings prevailed 5-2 on penalties when they last collided, following a 1-1 regulation score line.
Georgetown will be led by former national player and Captain Collette Hope. She is expected to be supported by Charmin Fraser, and Alicia Allicock. Colette Dublin will captain Kings, with help from Neishana Castello, and skillful striker, Sash Greaves with Susan Josiah heading the defence.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Mr. Steve Ninvalle will be present to kick off the first ball at 5:00pm to officially start the programme.
