Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company on Friday and Sunday completed the final rounds of auditions for the 2009 Jingle and Song Competition with much pomp and fanfare.
While glitzy auditions were conducted in Essequibo on Friday, it was all fun and intense entertainment hype in Linden on Sunday as singers from the bauxite town took a swing at the lucrative prizes up for grabs in this year’s competition.
In Essequibo, 13 persons auditioned and nine were successful, establishing the fact that this location netted the highest percentage of persons receiving the positive nod from the judges.
In Linden there were 36 entrants who auditioned but only 19 were successful.
The semifinal segment is set for July 12 at the Theatre Guild, while the final showdown is carded for July 26 at the National Park.
All Guyana is buzzing this year with the news of the smashing prizes the company has put up for grabs, some even exclaiming that GT&T is becoming even more popular for giving back to society in the positive mode.
This year’s winner will be presented with a Toyota VIOS (Blue) motorcar, a one-year endorsement contract with GT&T, complimentary recording of a single, an Apple IPOD Touch, a Samsung Bluetooth Headset and a cellular phone.
The lucky second place winner will be awarded $500,000, a one-year endorsement contract with GT&T, an Apple IPOD Touch, a return trip to Jamaica and a cellular phone, while the third place contestant earns $250,000, a return trip to Trinidad, and an Apple IPOD Touch and cellular phone.
Those that may have missed the auditions, can ‘catch up on the entertainment’ every Thursday night on NCN, and HJTV at 21:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs respectively.
The event this year is sponsored by Ansa McAl Ltd, Beharry Automotive Ltd, NCN, Impressions, HJTV, Caribbean Airlines and Wireless Connection, under the theme ‘Caribbean Rhythm, Guyanese Vybz’.
