The owner of the vehicle that claimed the life of John France, called ‘Early Bird’, and seriously injuring another man was yesterday placed on $30,000 bail by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Loris Mussenden, on June 12 last, permitted an unlicenced driver to use motorcar PLL 732 which resulted in the death of John France.
Another charge states that the accused on the said date, being the registered owner of the vehicle, permitted Ashley Pieters to use the said vehicle without having enforced insurance for third party risk.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently placed on $15,000 bail for each offence. The accused is expected to make another court appearance on September 3.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, Ashley Pieters, 27, has been slapped with five charges ranging from causing death by dangerous driving to driving in a dangerous manner.
The mother of two pleaded not guilty to all the charges which were read to her. Pieters has been remanded to prison as a result of the incident.
According to reports, the young woman did not turn herself in to the police until six days after the incident. It is said that after the accident occurred, Pieters, in the company of another person, took the victim to a city hospital and abandoned him.
Sources said that when Pieters finally turned herself in, only then was the accident reported.
