The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Three, has been allocated $2.2 billion to execute works under the current program.
Regional Executive Officer, Nandalall Ramkisson, said that for the area of regional administration and finance, a total of $118 million was allocated, while in Agriculture $206.8 million.
Public Works was allocated $78.9 million, Education delivery $1,243.4m and health services $435.3 million.
He explained that of this allocation, under other charges, 19% of the funds will be utilized, while $407 million will be spent on the purchase of fuel and lubricants, office and field materials, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, payment of utility charges, payment for security services and the payment for maintenance for other equipment in the area of hospitals.
Also 14% of the allocation will be used for the maintenance of buildings, bridges, drainage and irrigation works and roads at a cost of some $285.9 million.
Under the agriculture sector, maintenance would be done in excess of 53 drainage and irrigation canals, along with the excavation of a number of canals in various parts of the region.
In the area of Public Works, $13 million will be utilized to do routine maintenance on roads, $9.5 million will be spent on the repairs of existing bridges, $12.5 million for maintenance of existing buildings and other infrastructure at a cost of some $7.2 million.
Under education, the region plans to do major maintenance works on 29 school buildings with the sum of $45 million.
As it relates to other infrastructure, the RDC is hoping to do works on 28 locations with an allocation of $30.8 million, in the areas of sanitary facilities and fences for the schools.
Some $1.5 million will be used to repair dilapidated school bridges, while in the health sector, $21 million will be utilized for the repairs of 11 existing hospital buildings.
According Ramkisson, $3 million will be used to repair existing bridges, while $11 million will be expended on the repairs of other infrastructures in the health sector, such as fences, sanitary facilities and incinerators.
As it relates to the West Demerara Regional Hospital Complex, it was noted that the region would be doing significant work in the Outpatient area, where there is a serious problem with the roof and the Pediatric Ward.
