The most recent suicide victim who was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital on Saturday evening is being monitored closely by doctors there, but still believes that justice will never be served.
The teenager in an interview with this newspaper, said despite several counseling sessions, she felt that suicide was her only way out.
The teen said she attempted to take her own life after being constantly tormented by a man who had previously raped to her.
Almost in tears, the teen said she was raped almost one year ago but still relives the ordeal almost everyday that she lives.
“It is hard to live with because almost every day I am being reminded of what happened when I see the person walking on the road. I am being tormented by his family and he is twisting the story to make me look like a liar,” the traumatized teen said.
What is more dreadful for the teen is the fact that she feels her attacker is being protected by a family member who is a member of the Guyana Police Force.
The teen said, after the incident which was reported, she had started counseling but was forced to stop because of academic engagements.
However, while having to cope with studies and the constant reminder of the incident, the teen said she is plagued with nightmares which she can’t seem to get over.
“This makes no sense, no one believes me. He (the attacker) keeps telling people all sorts of different stories. Sometimes he would boast that he did it and other times he would tell people that I made the allegation to break up his family,” the teen added.
The young woman said her attacker was someone who was trusted around her family and she never expected that her innocence would be stolen from her by someone she trusted and respected.
Recounting the ordeal, the teen said one day while she was coming home from classes, her attacker whom she knew well called her to his back door to ‘show her something’.
“When I went to the back door he just pull me inside and start kissing me, and then he drag me in de bedroom, pull off my clothes and had sex with me,” she added
Fearful of the possible consequences, the teen was hesitant to tell anyone, but soon confided in a close friend who advised her to tell her parents. It was shortly after the teen started to hemorrhage that she revealed what might have been the cause for the hemorrhaging.
The matter was reported to the police and the teen said the last thing the police told her family was that the file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice. That was some six months ago.
However, when asked if she regrets her action, the teen responded in the negative. She said her only regret is hurting her friend whom she had confided in and who had promised to help her through her ordeal.
“I know my friend is hurt by what I did because I promised her that I will be fine. We both went through the same thing, but she got justice and it seems as if I would never get justice,” the teen added.
