Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital were last night treating a ‘B’ Field, Sophia man who was rushed to the institution at around 22:00 hrs with a gunshot wound to the back of the neck.
The victim, who gave his name as Rudolph Nurse, 34, said that he was walking in the vicinity of Pike Street when a red car drove by.
He alleged that at the same time, he heard an explosion and felt a burning sensation at the back of the neck.
According to the man, he ran home and a friend subsequently brought him to the hospital by taxi.
Kaieteur News understands that the friend left the hospital before police could question him further.
At press time, Nurse was still being treated in the Accident and Emergency Room.
Medical sources listed his condition as stable. He underwent an x-ray and treatment before being consigned to the ward.
But there were reports that the shooting might have occurred when the shooter fired at a thief who had entered his yard. Nurse might have been an innocent passerby.
