A total 16 cricket clubs, 10 youth and sports clubs, 12 churches and the Berbice Umpire Association received over $3 million worth of educational and hygiene material from the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RTHYSC) in conjunction with the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints last week.
The presentation took place under the club’s ‘Say Yes to Sports and Education Programme, which seeks to get youths between the ages of 10-18 years to stay in school and get involve in sports with the aim of getting them to stay away from social ills.
Among those receiving the items were cricket clubs from Port Mourant, Blairmont, Scotsburg, Skeldon, Young Warriors, Chesney, Whim, Police, Rose Hall Canje, Letter Kenny Circle Tennis female team and the Rose Hall Hindu Temple Sports Clubs.
Items were also given to the CCI Mission, Act in Faith Ministries, Assembly of God, Scots Church, Congregational Church and the Church Of Christ among other churches, while NGOs from Fyrish, Eversham, Cumberland and New Amsterdam also benefitted.
They also received supplies of several other items including clothes, footwear and blankets, while the Letter Kenny Circle Tennis Team and Rose Hall Town Hindu Temple received sports equipment.
Organising Secretary of the RHTYSC Ravindranauth Kissoonlall in handing over the items called on the clubs, churches and NGOs to make sure that they make use of the donated items for its intended purpose.
Mr. Kissoonlall called on the youth and sports leaders to be more dedicated and passionate about sports development as the future of the present generation is at stake.
He praised the leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints for their continued interest in the youths of Guyana.
