Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ended the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Cellink Plus two-day first division cricket competition with 111 points, while Police opening batsman Rawle Browne and MSC left-arm spinner Damien Vantull have the most runs and wickets respectively going into the final round.
MSC are 9 points ahead of Everest who have also completed their seven matches and 10 points ahead of GCC who have a game in hand.
Police and GDF battle at Police from tomorrow and GCC and DCC clash in a crucial game at Bourda also from tomorrow as GCC aims to take the lead.
Colin Alfred and Nigel Duguid will umpire the game at Police, while Eddie Nicholls and Shannon Crawford would officiate in the Bourda game. Both matches commence at 09:30hrs.
The right-handed Browne, brother of former Guyana players Barrington and Robin Browne, has so far scored 367 runs from 7 innings with a ton and three fifties and an average of 52.43, while former Guyana Under-19 Captain Sauid Drepaul is next with 359 runs for Everest from 8 innings, including a century and 3 fifties. Drepaul, the leading all-rounder in the competition, averages 44.88.
GNIC’s Rayon Griffith (310 runs from 10 innings, Ave 34.44) and MSC’s former West Indies Under-19 Skipper Steven Jacobs (303 runs from 5 innings, with 2 centuries, Ave 75.75) are the only other batsmen to reach 300 runs.
Left-arm spinner Vantull has enjoyed a successful season in Demerara’s cricket with 33 scalps including 2 five-wicket hauls, while former Guyana Under-19 leg-spinner Troy Gonsalves is second among the wicket-takers with 28 wickets including 3 five-wicket hauls.
Drepaul’s left-arm spin has earned him 20 wickets, the same as Police’s leg-spinner Vishal Jaigobin, while National Under-17 off-spinner Ricardo Devers from Police and 52 year-old former Test off-spinner Clyde Butts from GNIC have 18 wickets each.
Off-spinner and Guyana 20/20 player Orin Forde (17) is the other bowler with over 15 wickets in the competition.
Jacobs’ two centuries are the most by any batsman, while Gonsalves’ 3 five-wicket hauls and two each from Devers-in his first season at this level- and Berbician Vantull are the most by a bowler this season.
