The final composition of the respective teams to represent Guyana at the inaugural Caribbean Games set for July 12-19 in Trinidad and Tobago was released, during a media briefing, held in the Boardroom of the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport yesterday.
The Guyana contingent will be spearheaded by President of the Guyana Olympic Association K. Juman Yassin and Chef de Mission Gokarn Ramdhani, while Managers of the three disciplines to be represented in are: Grace McCalman (Tennis), Clifton Moore (Boxing) and Mark Scott (Athletics).
The coaches are: Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan (Tennis), Lyndon Wilson (Athletics) and Evan Parris (Boxing).
The Tennis team will comprise Shawna Gentle, Carol Humphrey and Avernelle Holder (females) and Jeremy Miller, Ezra Sue-Ho and Anthony Downes (Males); Boxing – Clevon Rock (Bantamweight), Clive Atwell (Featherweight), Aubrey Moore (Lightweight), Moolchan Sankar (Junior Flyweight), Bert Braithwaite (Light Welterweight), Devon Boatswain (Welterweight) and Dexter Jordan (Flyweight) and Athletics- Marian Burnett (800 metres), Aliann Pompey (400 metres), Adam Harris (100, 200 metres), Jeremy Bascom (100 metres), Lee Prowell (200 mteres), Kelvin Johnson (10,000 metres) and Cleveland Forde (1,500, 5,000 metres).
Among those in attendance were Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, Director of Sport Neil Kumar and President of the Athletic Association of Guyana Colin Boyce.
Yassin said that expectations of Guyana doing well are high, but the fact of the matter is that we are competing against nations such as Jamaica, Cuba, Barbados and the Dominican Republic who’re very strong.
Chef de Mission Ramdhani told the media, boxers will be encamped at the National Gymnasium from June 21 until the team is ready to depart.
Guyana will be stationed at the University of the West Indies cave Hill Campus, while the Games Village will open on July 5.
