The countdown is on for the Sonia Noel-spearheaded Guyana Model Search and Designer/ Stylist portfolio 2K9.
And while Chief Executive Officer Noel is promising much more excitement this time around from the more than eager cast, as a prelude they were treated to several preparation workshops recently.
Reports from Noel are that the hopefuls in the respective categories assembled at the Duke Lodge, Kingston two Saturdays ago and benefited from pointers given by veteran designer Derek Moore.
Moore briefed the models, designers and stylists on what to expect in the competition if they move on to the next round. He also shared his expertise and spoke of what the competitions are about and how they can contribute to the respective industries here.
He added that he is looking forward to working with the hopefuls throughout the competition and the eventual winners.
He sees much talent among the bunch and is optimistic of their contributions to further developing the local fashion industry.
Noel says the preliminary round of competitions begings on Sunday while the first programme for airing is on June 11 locally on Channel 11HJTV-72, and On TTS Bartica and will hit the region via the Caribbean Broadcasting Networks.
Noel opines that the competition is stiff and noted that many of the hopefuls would be out leaving 24 models, 12 designers and six stylists to move onto the next round.
Local catwalk diva, Vivienne Dash, will host the Model Search TV show and Noel will host the Stylist and Designer Portfolio shows. Noel promises that much excitement would be generated as the show progresses and added that although she is under a lot of pressure she is committed to the projects in the interest of offering local aspirants a time to shine and achieve their goals; an opportunity that she did not have as a young designer.
Noel told this publication that she thoroughly enjoyed last year’s experience and is looking forward to “another fantastic year.”
In a raring to go tone she said “I can’t wait for the day when we will have a designing school in Guyana to take the talent we have to another level.” (Mondale Smith)
