The Guyana Netball Association (GNA) recently held a general membership meeting where decisions to move the sport forward was made in addition to confirming the itinerary for competitions scheduled for this year.
Among the activities planed to highlight the year are the proposed visits by coaches Annett Beckett and Dave Browne, both of whom will work with the junior and senior national selections, the training of table officials, staging of fundraisers and the hosting of three tournaments.
The dates identified for the tournaments are as follows:
Table Officials’ Clinic – June 13-14
Opening and Award Ceremonies- July 4
Local 16 and under Competition- July 4-5
Local Under23 (in place of the 18 and under) – August 7-9
Local Open Competition – August 28
Meanwhile, training for the 16 and under team began last Saturday under the guidance of Lawrence Kellman, Warren Wilson and Randolph Critchlow.
The squad with the addition of four players who had qualified for the tour of Jamaica, but who did not present themselves will practice every Saturday and Sunday with the focus being on technical ability, fitness and recognition of roles.
The senior trials and squad selection will be held in June.
Fundraising activities are expected to start in June.
