Crane and All Youth played to a tie last Tuesday at Uitvlugt, in the latest round of the Barakat Brother’s 40-over second division cricket competition for teams in West Demerara, East Bank Essequibo and Leguan.
All Youth were bowled out for 123 in 31.1 overs; Ganesh Persaud made 50 and Sewchan Narine 31, with Seenauth Bessassar taking 3-15 and Davendra Ramdial 3-26 for Crane, who made 123 in 25.1 overs.
Bessassar (30) and Imran Khan (23) offered resistance, as Jadesh Persaud took 4-22 and Shaheed Khan 3-19 for All Youth.
In the other match played on the same day, Satro defeated Shamrock by six wickets in Leguan.
Shamrock made 105 all out in 22 overs; Abdulla Naziemudeen led the way with 37. Alwin McKoy took 3-18, Zahir Razack 3-8 and Bryan Roopchand 2-10 for Satro, who reached 106-4 in 14 overs.
Savtir Huckchand top scored with 59 and got support from Munesh Jattan (26); Julius Williams finished with 2-27 in a losing cause.
The competition continues tomorrow and Sunday with three matches each day at Uitvlugt, Leguan and Meten-Meer-Zorg West.
The top two teams from the two zones in the 14-team competition will meet in the semi-finals in the second week of July, while the final is scheduled for July 18.
The champion team will collect a trophy and $130,000, while the runners-up receive a trophy and $60,000. The batsman with the most runs in the competition, the bowler with the most wickets and the Man-of the-Match in the final will each earn $10,000.
