A 34-four-year father of one was fished out of the Corentyne River on Tuesday, two days after his boat in which he was transporting lumber, sunk.
Dead is Grandville Patterson of Orealla Village, Corentyne River.
According to Patterson’s sister, Tamasha Mc Almont, she last spoke to her only brother on Saturday night.
The sister added that Patterson, a boat operator, would transport lumber for different lumber traders.
She said that on Sunday night she received a call from Patterson’s wife informing her of the mishap.
According to the sister she was informed that the incident happened shortly after 22:00hrs on Sunday night.
She said at the time of the accident her brother and another passenger were onboard. The sister said that the boat began taking in water and the boat quickly sank. Mc Almont opined that although her brother was an experienced swimmer, he worked very hard and was probably tired thus making him incapable of handling the heavy currents.
The woman said that Patterson’s death has plunged the family and community into deep mourning.
