Riddim Squad needle Kitty Rangers in lone game
The 2009 Western Union division-one league organised by the Georgetown Football Association kicked off yesterday at the Camptown ground in Campbellville with Riddim Squad needling Kitty Rangers.
Following the ceremonial kick off of the tournament by Western Union’s Marketing Manager Natheeah King, Riddim Squad and Kitty Rangers were given the privilege of matching skills in the first game of the division-one season conscious of the fact that placing first or second will see them elevated to the Premier Division.
The first half was a close tussle as both teams sought to wrest the initiative from the other, Kitty Rangers getting the better of the exchanges in this half.
The second half was a different script however, as Riddim Squad grooved into a rhythm that the Rangers could not handle. Riddim Squad, were finally able to put together passes in numbers and took the attack to Kitty Rangers who were not able to duplicate the energy displayed in the first half.
Julian Forris broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a well taken free kick and as it turned out it was exactly what the doctor ordered on a hot and sunny afternoon. Riddim Squad now stands at the top with 3 points along with Houston Stars who took full points from the University of Guyana who failed to show up for battle. (Franklin Wilson)
