Special events committee to stage concert for St George’s Cathedral restoration
The St George’s Cathedral is one of Guyana’s most important landmarks. However, due to exposure to the elements, the building is in dire need of repairs. To this end, a group of conscientious members, identified as the Special Events Committee, has recently initiated action to restore the building to its pristine state in the form of a fund raising concert which gets underway at 16:00hrs on Independence Day, Tuesday, May 26, at the Cathedral, North Road, Georgetown.

Patrons would be treated to classical and semi-classical music as the group aims to accrue funds for the restoration process and also to highlight the exceptional talents of some of the youths of the Diocese. Lovers of classical music would be treated to renditions from Curtis Henry on the saxophone as well as Gordon Marshall on the trumpet. Tevera Franklyn will be performing on the violin while Candace Barnes and Thalia Baeza-Milan would offer beautiful renditions on the piano. There will also be a steel band ensemble. Ron Robinson will perform the function of Master of Ceremony and is scheduled to render a selection on the harmonica.
Adults attending the event are asked to make a small contribution of $500 while children pay $200. Tickets will be sold at the door but those wishing to purchase tickets in advance may do so by contacting the following persons or places. Bro Theodore DeMonick (664-2030, 223-9561), Sonel’s Craft Shop(GPO Building, North Road), Nigel’s Supermarket (Light and Robb Streets) or Nesha’s Flower land, Church and Carmichael Streets. Security will be provided for vehicles for the duration of the event.
