After an extended suspension due to rain, the 2008 New Building Society (NBS) Challenge 2nd division 40over cricket competition resumed last weekend in Berbice.
Hopetown Cricket Club of West Berbice became the first team to reach the last 16 playoffs when they defeated Rainbow Generation in their final zone A preliminary match to end as winners of that Zone.
The highlight of this round of matches was an unbeaten ton by former Berbice Under-19 Colin Duke who slammed 118 (4 fours and 4 sixes) to help his team Achievers reach 231- 6 in 30 overs against Union who in response were skittled out for 59.
Dwain Crandon’s 93 (7 fours and 4 sixes) and 51 (5 fours and 3 sixes) from Seon Crandon assisted Courtland of Lower Corentyne to 244-8 in 35 overs against Kendall’s Union. They went on to win by 103 runs.
Recording half centuries were Jamally Odle and Dane Benny of Tucber Park, Lakeram Chaitram of Bath, Vishwanauth Lallbeharry of No. 69 Vikings and Eon Abel of De Edward.

Courtland defeated Kendall’s Union by 103 runs. Courtland 244-8 in 35 overs; Dwain Crandon 93, Seon Crandon 51, Michael Cummings 37. Kendall’s Union 141 in 34.2 overs; Joseph Chand 33, Troy Matheson 3-14, John Percival 2-15.
At Edinburgh, Tucber Park beat Edinburgh by 88 runs. Tucber Park 208 in 40 overs with Jamally Odle 53, Dane Benny 52. Edinburgh 120 in 29.3 overs, with Richard Seebarran 27, Andel De Jonge 4-21.
At No. 69, No. 60 Vikings beat No 59 by 7 wickets. No. 59, 127 in 30 overs with Chunilall Naurang 3-9, Yograj Bhagwandat 3-18. No. 69 Vikings 128-3 in 19 overs with Vishwanauth Lallbeharry 50 n.o, Yograj Bhagwandat 40 n.o.
Number 52 Survival beat Yakusari Caribs of Black Bush Polder by 8 wickets. Yakusari Caribs 72 in 13.4; Wayne Garnett 6-26, Courtney Wynter 4-30. No. 52 Survival 77-2 in 6.1 overs; Nigel Campbell 30.
At Adventure in Central Corentyne, Kennard’s Memorial of Bush Lot farm humbled Adventure by 149 runs. Kennard’s Memorial 196-7 in 30 overs; Roopnarine Ramlall 43, Hemraj Mankarran 32 n.o, Makesh Khemraj 3-25. Adventure 47 in 11.1 overs; Roopnarine Ramlall 5-1, Tamesh Ramessar 4-12.
