Newly accredited UNDP Resident Representative to Guyana, Dr. Mamadou Kiari Liman-Tinguiri, on Friday last paid a courtesy call on Dr. Steve Surujbally, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
During formal discussions, Dr. Surujbally updated Dr. Liman-Tinguiri about the status of GECOM’s current focus pertaining to the finalising of the National Register of Registrants.
The two also discussed the preparations for the Conduct of a Claims and Objections exercise as a prerequisite for the holding of Local Government Elections (LGE), and comprehensive preparations for the holding of the LGE to be held possibly later this year.
Dr. Surujbally also discussed matters associated with the 2006 General and Regional Elections as well as those, which will become due in 2011. Dr. Liman-Tinguiri assured Dr. Surujbally that the UNDP would continue to support GECOM in every possible way pertaining to the preparations for and administering of elections in Guyana.
