ROSE HALL TOWN, CORENTYNE – Bibi Phagwah of Sheet Anchor in East Canje was adjudged Region Six’s Mother of the Year.
The mother of seven earned the title when the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Farfan and Mendes Under-15 Team and Pepsi Under-19 team in collaboration with Dave’s Television Station in New Amsterdam hosted its annual Tribute to Mothers Programme.
Chief Executive Officer of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Hilbert Foster explained that each entrant was required to submit a composition on ‘Why I Love my Mother’.
Carl Phagwah, in his essay, described his mother as being the foundation of his life. He wrote of the inspiration she is, her love, kindness and ability to remain calm under pressure.
The first runner-up is Sherelee Peters who was nominated by her daughter Chau Khan. Second runner-up is Radhica Ramjag who was selected by her son Mohendra Ramjag. The third runner up is Haimwattie Rahim.
Each of the winners were handed a Mother of the Year certificate, a Ricks and Sari hamper along with other paraphernalia to the tune of $15,000. The aim of the competition was to promote family values and the importance of motherhood.
Meanwhile, on Mother’s Day, the two cricket teams also recognised 100 mothers.
They were feted at a luncheon and received hampers.
