One remanded for taxi driver’s murder

After intense investigations, the police yesterday charged one suspect in connection with the brutal murder of taxi driver, Rawle Henry, 42 of 15, D’Urban Backlands.
The suspect who was identified as 21-year-old Clifford Graham of 23 Market Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Yohanseh Cave at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
It was alleged that Graham, between May 2 and May 3, murdered Rawle Henry. When he appeared in court, he was unrepresented.
The presiding Magistrate then advised him to secure the services of an Attorney by the next time he appears in court. He was remanded and is expected to make another court appearance on May 15.
The body of Rawle Henry was found last Sunday in a clump of bushes at Onion Field, La Bonne Intention. His motor vehicle was found hours earlier in the Sparendaam Squatting area.
Investigators had worked on a theory that Henry was a victim of a carjacking that turned bad, but that theory could not be sustained because a thorough check of his body revealed that the body bore signs of torture.
A detective on East Coast Demerara had told this newspaper that apart from his head being partly severed, Henry was stabbed in his ribs and had burn marks on his chest and penis.
According to reports the suspect told investigators that they hired Henry because he was expendable and because of an old grievance.
