More assistance still needed
As time draws close for Guyana’s participation at the Regional Powerlifting Championships set for the British Virgin Islands, the 3-member team of ‘Big’ John Edwards, Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses and Randolph Morgan are still short of the required funds.
Coming on board to narrow the needed amount was Windjammer International Hotel of Queen Street Kitty and Micro Design Technology (MDT).
The team will be managed by President of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation Peter Green.
Green said he was very grateful for the assistance of the two entities and is urging corporate Guyana to assist the team since all three athletes are medal potentials. Both John and Moses took the championships by storm last year when Guyana made a triumphant return to international competition after several years.
With Morgan, who copped the best lifter award at the last senior championships now added to the list, Guyana, who will be hosting next year’s competition is expected to better last year’s performances.
Green disclosed that the team will have their final practice session on Friday afternoon at 16:30hrs at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Gym, Albert Street.
While Windjammer made a cash donation, MDT donated 8 Polo shirts to the team and Green expressed his Federation’s gratitude to the donors.
Any entity desirous of assisting the team can make contact with Federation President Peter Green or any other member of the team.
