With the continuous junior drive ongoing, President of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) Gokarn Ramdhani, along with several other members, visited the Berbice High School on Saturday last to assist the School with improving the game which has recently made a return to the institution.
Physical Education teacher Zaheer Moakhan introduced the players and interested persons to the GBA representatives. Demonstrations of the basic rules and on-court play were conducted along with some verbal interaction with the students. The interest shown was described as “heartening” by the GBA officials.
The students were exposed to warm-up exercises, court runs, singles and doubles play, court drills among other things.
Ramdhani was extremely pleased when informed that the Berbice High School students will have Badminton as part of their Physical Education programme at CXC and the students are expected to benefit immensely from this and other visits which will assist in improving their knowledge in the lead up to exams.
The GBA plans to make regular visits to ensure Badminton is taken to a higher level in the region.
Rackets, shuttlecocks and DVDs on Badminton were also presented to the PE Teacher to help with the development of the game.
