Doctors at the Georgetown Hospital were last night battling to save the life of army Private Howard Willis, who was shot shortly after 20:00 hrs at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Ruimveldt.
The victim, who hails from the North West District, reportedly shot himself in the face with a rifle.
Reports indicate that Willis was sitting in a chair when his firearm went off.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was being prepared for surgery at press time.
