After a one-year hiatus, the much anticipated GT&T Cellink Jingle and Song Competition is returning, and with a prize tag bigger than ever before.
According to word coming from the telecommunications giant, the event was not staged last year since all Guyana was involved in preparations for Carifesta X and for the Christmas festivities that followed after.
This year’s competition, which promises ‘glitzy auditions’ and a massive campaign, is geared at providing exposure for talented local artistes and also serves as GT&T’s positive contribution to the local music industry.
Under the theme ‘Caribbean Music, Guyanese Vybz’, the competition will see auditions from next month. An official launch will be staged next month to which the media and other individuals will be invited.
Word out is that there is a smashing jackpot prize for the winner.
The initial auditions will be staged to ascertain whether contestants can actually sing before they can move on in the competition. Contestants will only be required to produce an original composition and perform live at the final stage of the competition. Auditions for this event will be staged countrywide. So far Essequibo, Linden, Georgetown and Berbice have been highlighted for this segment.
At each phase the contestants will each be tasked with a community project.
Participants will be required to prepare a jingle based on a particular situation or for one of the company’s many promotions.
