Local cyclists will compete for honours when national cycling coach, Hassan Mohammed stages a 50-mile road race on the West Bank of Demerara, on Arrival Day, next Tuesday, May 5.
The event will start at the Wales Police station at 09:00hrs, proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank, and end at the Demerara Harbour Bridge. However, the veterans and those competing in the upright category will turn around at the Uitvulgt Community Centre and return for the finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The event commemorates the arrival of Indians in Guyana and competitors will race in several categories. These also include the veterans, juniors and upright cyclists.
Eight prime prizes would be up for grabs, while the first veteran over sixty years to cross the finish line will receive a special prize.
The race is sponsored by Sara Johanna Gardens and the Friendship News. Managing Director Fazil Ramzan will send the riders on their way and later present the prizes to the successful participants.
